YMCA Youth Programs
YOUTH
SPORTS...
Sitting on the bench
is one position nobody has to play in YMCA Youth Sports. One
of our policies is that each child plays at least half of
each game. YMCA Youth Sports Programs are designed to
promote sportsmanship, fun, and the opportunity to learn and
develop skills and knowledge. In all programs we try to keep
winning low key.
The YMCA has
a wide variety of youth sports for both boys and girls. So
if you’d like to see your son or daughter enjoy the fun and
excitement of sports in a Christian atmosphere, we’d like to
help you put him or her in a position to do so.
Youth Basketball...
Youth basketball
starts in November. The teams are broken down into age
groups. The league tournament starts in February with the
season finishing by the end of February. Last year more than
300 of our community’s youth learned basic basketball
skills, rules, and values by playing in our basketball
program. This program is for both boys and girls.
Youth Soccer...
The Fall Soccer
Program is designed for every child whether beginner or
advanced in skill level. This program teaches basic soccer
skills, rules, fair play, and values. There are four
divisions in this league. Registration will begin in July
with games beginning at the end of August. The season
culminates at the end of October.
TAE KWON DO...
Come and learn
about the exciting world of martial arts. Throws, sweeps,
kicks and punches will be practiced. The discipline of
martial arts is taught in a relaxed environment. This is a
program that runs throughout the year. Children may sign up
at anytime during the year.
YMCA JAZZ CLASSES…The
jazz class is designed for ages 8 thru adult. The
participant will learn a basic jazz warm up, as well as some
isolation movements, turns, and steps across the floor. Each
week we will work on a combination which will be
incorporated into a dance for the Spring Performance.
GYMNASTICS...
Children ages five
and older can develop strength, coordination, creativity,
and cardiovascular endurance while participating and
progressing through the levels of gymnastics skills. We
provide three different levels of classes. The beginners
class is for the child who has had little or no gymnastics
background. Basics will be taught in the class. The
intermediate gymnast will be taught stunts which will be put
into routines. Some gymnastics in the past is required.
TEAM GYMNASTICS...
There are three
different levels of competition. Class IV is the beginner
competition level. Class III is the intermediate level of
competition and Class II Optional is the advanced of the
three levels. A set routine will be taught to the gymnasts
on the beam, bars, vault and floor exercise. We travel to
other cities for meets and are judged by qualified judges.
We compete through YMCAs and the United States Gymnastics
Federation. Try-outs are required. Tumbling requirements for
the team will be front and back walkovers and an assisted
round-off back handspring.
BEGINNING BALLET...
This class will
be a continuation of kindergarten ballet and will be
available to ages 7 - 9. More complex exercises and ballet
steps will be introduced, such as pirouette, grand jete’ and
small jumps. The students will also continue their work on
stretching and strength.
BEGINNING/INTERMEDIATE BALLET...
The students from
ages 9 and up will work on basic ballet techniques, as well
as more advanced techniques. Combinations in the center and
across the floor will be given. The students will continue
strengthening work and work on flexibility and turns.
YMCA TAP CLASSES…The
tap classes will work on skipping, marching, hops, and
leaps. We will also learn a flap, brush, shuffle, dig and
other basic tap steps. The tap class will perform in the
Spring Performance with the ballet and jazz classes.
